Shooting is resolved per projectile: each bullet can have its own accuracy, then damage, graze and critical rules modify the result.

Direct answer

Shooting is resolved per projectile: each bullet can have its own accuracy, then damage, graze and critical rules modify the result.

How to use this page

The displayed percentage is essential but not a full damage preview. Burst length, effective range, cover state and what lies behind the target all matter.

What is verified

  • Inspect each projectile in a burst.
  • Later bullets may be less accurate than the first.
  • Damage can vary inside a weapon range.
  • High cover can increase graze outcomes at minimum weapon damage.

Evidence scope

Verified against sources on August 14, 2026

This page is based on the official shooting and RNG explanation. It documents the confirmed resolution order and practical shot checks; exact weapon ranges, armour penetration values and skill modifiers remain version-sensitive until captured from the launch build.

How a shot resolves

Treat an attack as several linked checks: the game presents a chance for each projectile, determines which bullets follow the aimed solution, sends projectiles through the physical scene, then applies variable damage and outcomes such as criticals or grazes. A burst therefore cannot be understood from one headline percentage or one expected damage number.

  • Projectile chance comes before total damage.
  • Physical path still matters after the roll.
  • Critical and graze outcomes are not the same as ordinary hits.

Choosing between a burst and a better position

Later rounds in the official burst example lose accuracy, so more bullets do not automatically mean better efficiency. Compare the full projectile list with the action-point cost of moving to a flank, gaining height or destroying cover. If repositioning improves several future attacks or prevents return fire, it may be worth more than accepting a weak burst now.

  • Evaluate every bullet in the preview.
  • Count the actions left after firing.
  • Prefer a position that also protects the next turn.

Damage, cover and friendly fire

Damage can vary inside a weapon's range even when bullets hit. High cover can increase graze outcomes that deal the weapon's minimum damage, while exposed targets in effective range can be more vulnerable to criticals. A miss can keep travelling, so never evaluate a shot without checking the friendly and environmental lane behind it.

  • Cover changes more than hit chance.
  • Minimum damage may indicate a graze rather than a normal hit.
  • Move friendlies off the firing axis before a risky burst.

Shot decision order

  1. Read the objective and decide whether this target must die now.
  2. Check every projectile chance and remaining action points.
  3. Check cover, height, range and flank options.
  4. Inspect the full firing lane, including friendlies and explosive scenery.
  5. Compare firing now with moving or destroying cover first.

Frequently asked questions

Is a burst one hit roll?

No. The official explanation says every projectile is calculated separately, and later rounds can carry their own accuracy penalties.

Why did a hit deal minimum damage?

Normal damage varies by weapon, and high cover can also produce a graze that deals the minimum value. A combat log would be needed to distinguish every case reliably.

Can I trust old weapon tables?

Only after matching the build. Demo and SPARTA 2035 values are useful test leads, but they are not launch-version Warhounds data until reproduced.
